Types of Hardwood Flooring:

Solid Hardwood Flooring:

Solid hardwood floors are made from a single piece of wood. These pieces of wood are conditioned and finished before they are cut into individual pieces that will be used to assemble your floor. Generally, solid hardwood flooring strips are normally ¾” in width, though other widths are available to create a custom look.

Pre-finished Hardwood Flooring:

Prefinished hardwood flooring is just that…prefinished and ready for installation. The wood boards are pre-sanded, pre-stained, and pre-finished, which saves hours of labor.  When you purchase a pre-finished floor, you will not have to sand, stain and finish the color onsite, because this is already done ahead of time.

Unfinished Hardwood Flooring:

Unfinished hardwood flooring has the advantage of allowing for floor to be completely customized onsite. You can choose the wood grain you desire and then the wood is sanded, stained and finished while in your home. While this type of floor is more labor intensive to finish,  it does give you the freedom to sand, stain, and finish your flooring however you prefer.

Engineered Hardwood Flooring:

Different from solid hardwood floors, engineered floors are made up of 2 to 5 sheets of wood that are laminated together to form a plank. The topmost layer of an engineered hardwood floor is often a different type of wood than the many layers below.  This allows you to choose your desired color and wood grain.
